| TREKKING COST TO COST - EASTWEST TRIP
Our trekking begins at the south shore of Florianópolis, more specifically at Ribeirão da Ilha Beach; one of the first fisherman’s community in Florianópolis. The place regards the most important locally Azorean architecture, with many historical buildings. After our visit to the ethnographic museum, we start our walk trough Peri’s hinterland, place known as the most important magical center in the island (Florianópolis) is famous also as Magic Island because the histories about witches and magical rituals).
After Peri’s hinterland we arrive at the Lagoa do Peri Park, an under protection area that regards the biggest lake and mostly of the remaining wild life in the island.
Inside the park we are going to visit an old manioc mill and the Peri’s waterfalls, with a refreshing stop for swimming and pick nick.
Going ahead we find the NGO Lontra’s Project (River Otter Project) where the visitors can meet Brito, a young Otter, mascot of the project. Our trip must to continue, it’s time to leave the NGO head quarter’s reaching the Atlantic Ocean. At this part is possible to see old walls of rock made by the slaves many centuries ago. Finally we arrive at Armação Beach. The place is named because in the past times, fisherman's used to kill whales just at the beach to get meat and oil. Remains there a church builded using right whale’s oil.
During winter time, if you are lucky, it’s possible to have whale watching by land.
